Your vehicle is outfitted with a range of different warning and indicator lights. These are designed to help you maintain its performance and safety. By illuminating, these lights warn you of issues that could potentially cause problems with your Ford or Lincoln. Warning Lights If any of the following lights illuminate, it is a warning that something is amiss with your vehicle. You should make arrangements to have it checked by a qualified technician as soon as possible. Charge: If the image of a car battery illuminates while the engine is running, this indicates that the charge system is not fully functional. Turn the car off and check the generator belt. Antilock Brakes: The antilock brake system is indicated by the letters "ABS" that illuminate when you turn the car on. This light should go off after a few seconds. If it doesn't, there could be an issue with your braking system. Power Steering: The power steering system is indicated that it is working by the letters "PS" that light up when you start your vehicle. If this warning light illuminates as you're driving, however, you should take the car to have its power steering system checked. Low Tire Pressure: A circle that is flattened and that has an exclamation point inside is an indication to you that your tire pressure is low. It's important to realize that though this light illuminates when you start your car, it should go off shortly afterward. Seatbelt: This warning light is the image of a person wearing a seat belt and is a reminder for everyone to buckle up. It might also be accompanied by a tone or chime as a reminder as well. Brake: This indicator features the word "BRAKE" and tells you that your brake fluid is low or that the parking brake is engaged. In some models, the indicator could be an exclamation point inside a circle that is then inside a set of parenthesis instead of the word "BRAKE." Supplemental AIrbag: Once you turn on your vehicle, an indicator light that has a person who is seated with a seatbelt and circular airbag will be illuminated for about seven seconds. If you see this indicator on for any longer than that, though, it is a sign that some type of service is necessary. Master: This indicator light comprises an exclamation point that is located inside a triangle. There are several different reasons this could light up including a loose fuel cap, your door or trunk is open, the fuel is low, the key is absent, the windshield washer fluid is low, the tire pressure needs to be checked or your parking brake needs to be released. These warning and indicator lights might be confusing and worrisome. The average cost of a Super Bowl commercial spot has skyrocketed more than 75 percent over the past decade. Rewind the clock to 10 years ago and a 30-second ad in the big game was about $2.5 million. This past Super Bowl featured 30-second ads at a clip of around $4.5 million. It is estimated that half-minute spots for this year's big game will sell for $5 million or more. Ford is spearheading the charge with a creative ad that will debut moments before the opening kickoff. more Ford's Super Bowl LI Commercial Tune in to the Super Bowl pregame show on FOX and you will catch Ford's creative ad that will air just before the game gets under way. Ford's commercial starts out with a a skier who finds himself trapped on a ski lift. The commercial then shows similar unfortunate situations like kites stuck in trees, a basketball jammed between the rim and backboard, boats stranded in the middle of nowhere with busted engines, a wrestler mired in a choke-hold, people stuck in massive traffic jams and a man on a roof who accidentally kicks his ladder aside and has no safe means of departing. Dubbed as "Go Further", Ford's Super Bowl commercial then takes a turn for the better by showing each of these individuals finding a way out of their respective jams. These creative solutions to difficult challenges represent Ford's approach to problem-solving. The company “goes further” by exploring new ways to overcome challenges in an effort to benefit customers with improved automobile technology. Star Power Listen closely to the commercial's narrator's voice and you just might recognize the tone and inflection. It is that of Bryan Cranston, also known as Walter White from the hit AMC drama Breaking Bad. Cranston describes Ford's creation of diverse mobility solutions. The point of his monologue is to communicate that Ford is working on much more than regular vehicles that everyday people drive. The company is also spearheading new ground on autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, ridesharing and beyond. Bringing Cranston on board to narrate the company's message is quite the prudent move. The public has been clamoring for more access to Cranston ever since the Breaking Bad series ended a few years ago. Ford's power brokers chose this route to heighten public awareness of the automaker's new direction. The spot casts Ford in a progressive and dynamic light. Those who see the ad will likely view the company as a trailblazer rather than as a somewhat stale car manufacturer that endured financial problems and other challenges throughout the past couple of decades. It is quite the savvy public relations strategy by Ford executives.

The 2017 Ford F-150 is shaping up to be a 10. The updated pickup will be the first Ford to feature a new 10-speed automatic transmission that was jointly developed with GM, and it’s been confirmed that the Raptor will have a new 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 that’s rated at 375 hp, 10 hp more than the current motor and 470 lb-ft of torque, which is a boost of 50 lb-ft. more The 2017 F-150 Raptor will feature a high performance version of the 3.5-liter that Ford says will outgun the old Raptor’s 6.2-liter V8, which was rated at 411 hp and 434 lb-ft, but hasn’t yet revealed by how much. While the horsepower rating trails the F-150’s 5.0-liter V8 and its competitors top eight-cylinder engines, the torque number beats the Chevrolet Silverado’s 6.2-liter V8 for best in class honors by 10 lb-ft. Similarly, its horsepower rating beats out rivals like the Ram 1500 Rebel, which delivers 395 hp in its most powerful form. Ford says the new Raptor delivers more low-rpm torque than before and better optimized shift points with its new 10-speed automatic transmission and torque-on-demand transfer case. “Looking at the torque curve of the Raptor’s EcoBoost engine, you see the twin turbos spool quicker for faster time to torque, it hammers quick and keeps delivering torque for a more brawny feel than its V8 predecessor,” said Al Cockerill, Raptor’s powertrain development engineer, in a recent release. Using the same military-grade aluminum-alloy body and fully boxed high-strength steel frame as the current F-150 trucks, the 2017 Raptor is up to 500 lb. lighter than the 2014 model. It delivers 21 percent improved average torque-to-weight ratio and a 23 percent improvement in EPA-estimated combined fuel economy compared with the previous generation Raptor. EPA estimated fuel economy ratings for the 2017 F-150 Raptor are 15 mpg city, 18 mpg highway and 16 mpg combined. “Raptor was designed to be a no-compromise, off-road performance machine. That is why we made the switch from the cast-iron V8 to the aluminum block, high-output GTDI V6 EcoBoost engine that our team tuned to add for today’s Raptor,” said Matt Tranter, Ford Performance engineering supervisor. “The torque-on-demand transfer case and six-mode Terrain Management System is unique to Raptor in the Ford family of vehicles. It gives you the benefit of a clutched all-wheel-drive system for easy around-town maneuverability in bad weather. Then, there’s Baja Mode, which automatically engages a mechanically locked 4X4 high, and optimizes throttle response, shifting and boost control to provide improved off-road capability.” Ford has sold over one million of its 3.5 and 2.7 liter EcoBoosts since it first started, offering turbocharged engines the F-150 in 2011, and they now account for a majority of the model’s sales. High-output EcoBoost features for Raptor include more-aggressive turbo compressors with increased boost calibrations, cast stainless steel manifolds and full dual exhaust, oil-cooled pistons and more-aggressive engine control calibrations Standard 10-speed automatic transmission, the first from Ford not to employ cast-iron components, features Auto Start-Stop and an integrated electric pump to improve driving efficiency Raptor’s new adaptive shift algorithms monitor a dozen powertrain and driver control signals, ensuring the right gear at the right time in Raptor’s normal, sport, weather, mud/sand, rock/crawl and Baja modes Although it hasn’t formally listed pricing on its website, Ford confirms that the F-150 Raptor will start at a base price of under $50,000. But this summer, Ford documents revealed a price of $49,520, including a destination charge of $1,195. The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is now available to order from Ford Lincoln of Franklin.

From envisioning and developing one of the first automobile production lines, to being the first producer of flathead V8 engines, the Ford Motor Company has long been at the forefront of automotive innovation. Now, Ford can claim another first. The company has announced a project aimed at producing auto parts made from captured greenhouse gases. more Ford has been pushing the boundaries of sustainability, and this is just another example of the company's commitment to using renewable, biomaterials on the production line. Using the captured carbon dioxide, Ford is experimenting with the production of foams and plastics used in seats, cabin materials and even engine components, and they're the first automotive manufacturer to test this unique approach. The initiative, if it makes it to the production line, has the potential to help Ford reduce its petroleum use by nearly 600 million pounds each year, which is enough petroleum to fill 35,000 houses, Ford says. Ford's Long Commitment to Sustainable Materials The Ford Motor Company's founder Henry Ford was a champion of automotive innovation. For example, in the 1940s, Ford started experimenting with agriculture-based materials, which lead to Ford developing a soybean-based vehicle built in 1941. Plus, Ford's Dearborn, Michigan plant was one of the first in the world to produce fenders made of soybeans. That history continues today. In recent years, Ford has been moving away from plastic and artificially produced materials. The main reason is cost. Plastics require a large amount of oil to produce, while products like soybean-based and carbon dioxide-produced biomaterials greatly reduce the petroleum footprint and ultimately cost. Yet, in the last two decades, Ford's biomaterials research and production has truly taken off. Ford is leading the way in design and development of materials made from recycled or sustainable products. For example, the majority of Ford vehicles feature cushions, seatbacks, and headrests which are produced with soy-based materials. Additionally, the coin cups in many Ford cars are made with recycled shredded paper money. In 2016, Ford is also using coconut fibers in their truck liners, and recycled plastic bottles have been used to create fabrics for the 2016 F-150. The move to research and develop CO2-based plastics for their vehicles is just the latest step in Ford's mission to create vehicles produced with sustainable materials. How CO2 Is Used to Produce Vehicle Parts To help jumpstart the CO2 research initiative, Ford partnered in 2013 with Novomer, a company that captures carbon dioxide produced in the manufacturing industry. The partnership will provide Ford's research lab with an abundance of captured carbon dioxide to experiment with and refine their production of foams and plastics made from the world's most abundant greenhouse gas. The project is still in its early stages, but the results have been promising. Ford's research lab has developed a process for transforming captured carbon dioxide into a dense, soft foam material, which could be used for cushions and seating, and they're also experimenting with durable plastics for fabric and engine components. Yet, there's still experiments and research that needs to be conducted. Although Ford says that carbon dioxide-based materials won't likely be used on the production line for five years, it's still an exciting announcement and signals the future of automotive design sustainability. This can make you feel more connected to the road while you're angling through curves or cruising down the highway. Firmer Ride Quality Although summer tires have plenty of benefits, you might have to sacrifice some comfort. Because of the increased road connection and the low sidewalls, you'll feel all the bumps and divots in the road more keenly. This could mean a little stiffness and soreness after a long road trip, depending on your tolerance level. At the 2016 International Motor Show in Detroit, Ford Motor Co. announced the development of their own mobile platform known as FordPass. With this app, Ford and non-Ford owners will have access to a number of features including FordGuides, FordPay, and FlightCar. FordPass offers a suite of apps that have been designed to be used with smartphones. These apps will allow you to accomplish a number of tasks ranging from paying your bills to reserving rental cars, all by tapping a few buttons on your phone. more Ford Motor Company Moving to the Next Level FordPass is the first major step in the development of the Ford Smart Mobility program in which Ford plans to move to the next level in customer service and connectivity. A membership to the FordPass program will be free to everyone when it becomes available in April of 2016. FordPass is expected to do for car owners, whether they own a Ford or not, what the iTunes app did for those who love music. Upon release, FordPass users will have access to the first three of what Ford indicates will be a number of apps to come in the future. These first three apps will allow users to accomplish a wide range of simple tasks aimed at making their lives on the go a little easier. FordPass will work with both iOS- and Android-powered devices, covering the largest segment of smartphone users in the United States. FordGuides In many ways, the FordGuides app has been designed to work in the same manner as the current GM offering of OnStar. Like all the FordPass services, you do not need to be a Ford owner to make use of this service. With the push of a button, you will have direct access to FordGuides, who are knowledgeable and helpful customer service professionals who can help you get where you're going or accomplish other small tasks. Among the many standard features built into FordGuides are: Navigation Assistance Emergency Roadside Assistance for issues like jump starts, lockouts, flat tires, gas delivery, and towing Parking reservations Reserving a table at your favorite restaurant All services are provided completely free of charge. Even if you find you no longer need a car in the future, Ford believes you will still find plenty of uses for FordGuides, especially since the services they provide can replace those offered by credit card companies, rental car agencies, hotel concierges, and auto clubs. Ford Motor Company intends to branch out from being a leading automaker into becoming a leader in mobility services and technology. FordPay The average American no longer relies on paper checks or cash to pay their bills, as most have long since made the move to debit and credit cards and online bill pay. Electronic payment methods have proven faster and more reliable, especially with the rise of online shopping. Ford Motor Co. has seen these changes and is aware that the American public continues to look for more convenience, especially with regard to mobility apps. This desire for more access to everything on the go led Ford to develop the FordPay system, which is in effect a virtual wallet. The FordPass app is truly all about convenience, according to Stephen Odell, Ford's executive vice president of global marketing, sales, and service, who says, "We're connecting consumers with the world, making it all incredibly easy." The FordPay system functions in much the same way as the Apple Pay in that you will be able to pay for many of the items and services available via FordPass directly through your smartphone. The FordPass app also features a built-in rewards program called FordAppreciation. The app will not only recognize your membership, but has been designed to grant you access to unique merchandise and a variety of members-only experiences. Thanks to the rewards program, you will also have the opportunity to earn or win a variety of perks from the various partner members. The Ford Appreciation program will award points for simply registering, and users can increase their points after completing specific actions, such as making a parking reservation or using the FordGuidesapp. Among the many partners in the FordPay and FordAppreciation program are: 7-Eleven McDonald's ParkWhiz Parkopedia FlightCar At one point in human history, we shared what we had with those in need. This could have been anything from a team of oxen for plowing the fields to the tools needed to build a cabin. In recent years, ride-sharing services such as Uber have once again brought the idea of sharing back to the forefront. According to Ford, FlightCar is an app intended to take this concept to the next level and may prove to be one of the most popular features of the FordPass system. When FordPass is first released in April of 2016, the FlightCar app will help users find vehicles they can borrow or share when traveling. As the app expands its range, Ford states it will help you to arrange ride shares, car sharing, and a wide range of "multi-modal transportation" options. The best way to interpret this is to say that FlightCar will help you get from point A to point B and all points in between, regardless of the transportation option you choose. It may include everything from loaner cars and bicycles to public light-rail, depending on the geographic location, to help keep the costs of your trip under control. FordHubs No mobility app is worth its salt if it doesn't come with plenty of support. To this end, Ford has announced the launch of a series of FordHubs in cities like San Francisco, New York, London, and Shanghai. These FordHubs will offer users a suite of services intended to enhance their experiences as FordPass members. These FordHubs will offer information regarding the many mobility services available in these cities and help you find new solutions for your various mobility needs. They will also offer a real-time mobility map of the city, which will become particularly beneficial for out-of-town visitors. Another fun aspect of the FordHubs app is the opportunity to enjoy special events, including access to the latest Ford Motor Company reveals. You may even get the chance to see the new models before they debut before the public. The all-new FordPass system is set to launch in the United States and Canada in April of 2016 and will roll out in Europe, Brazil, and China later in the year.
